another example of a city wasting time and money going after urban farmers.
i bet the one neighbor they interviewed in this piece with the dissenting opinion is the person who continually called Julie Bass in to the authorities until they had to take action.
from this news story she seems to be a well-adjusted, sweet and smart person who wants to grow food in her front yard as an example to her neighbors that organically-grown food can be available to anyone who is willing to work for it. plus it is expertly maintained. beautiful raised beds, perfectly mulched pathways and not a weed in sight. i she probably goes door-to-door and gives away her excess, too.
its so sad because i bet there are several fast-food restaurants in the city of Oak Park that are a source of waste and litter in the community (taco bell wrappers balled up and thrown out the window while someone is driving down the street) and are also perpetuating food addiction and unhealthy eating habits that destroy community health, and yet they decide to go after the woman who is growing immaculately-kept vegetables.
