So, when I lived in Chicago, the most stressful times were dashing to the train, hearing it pull into the station and knowing there’s no way to make it down all those steps before it pulls back out. Not sure what the physics are on the speed of running down stairs vs flinging myself down a slide, but it would definitely alleviate a touch of travel anxiety!
Dutch Railway Installs a Slide To Get To The Train
It’s officially called a ‘transfer accelerator’ by Dutch railway maintenance company ProRail, but everyone else would say it’s a slide. An awesome slide. Installed next to a stairway at the newly renovated railway station Overvecht in the city of Utrecht, the slide offers travellers the opportunity to quickly reach the railway tracks when they’re in a hurry.
“[The designers] brilliantly foresaw that such a playful urban intervention can generate large-scale positive spin-off for a disadvantaged neighborhood like Overvecht, and that’s exactly what happened.”

Nerds! Fine. But we’re totes going to the Pancake Boat! And you’re gonna have pancakes with me. None of this diet...
Well… not exactly crack house with guns and hookers, but more of the variety that comes with non-native youths trashing...
I WANT TO GO TO THERE. I’d never catch my train, I’d just keep running up the stairs and sliding down the slide. OVER...
I would LOVE that here, but can you imagine the amount of LAWSUITS american’s would bring to the courts?
AMAZING. Alas, my phobia of steep slopes and staircases also extends to slides, but I approve of the idea in theory.
All of the sudden I feel like putting Utrecht in my map for this year’s visit to the netherlands :)
I don’t think unicorns can be found anywhere in Utrecht. But there is a museum about Miffy, so all is well. And yeah...
