definitely feel like most of my friends are stuck around the mountain man phase. i topped out at fauxhemian and lately i’ve been appalled at how much i no longer care about my clothes, hair or makeup. it’s kind of sad. most days i look like a complete wreck.

tomorrow, the ak and i embark on a 14 hour, 1 minute (according to google maps) journey. it’s a little home for the holidays up in my office right now! i’m trying to determine our route, how much $ we’ll need for tolls, etc.

the plan is to leave kcmo at 7 am sharp tomorrow, roll into chicago around 3 pm, get some chicago-style pizza, spend the night at KK’s, pick up sister bird and head the rest of the way to akron, oh. exciting times.

we’ll spend the rest of the week eating turkey, playing speed scrabble, visiting with friends and family, and of course, family concert (video to come).

i think we’ll try to stop at the world’s largest truck stop, in walcott, iowa (pictured above).

last night i was kind of tricked into seeing new moon. i mean, i dunno, that’s probably giving myself too much credit. some friends of ours wanted to see it and for about 20 minutes the ak and i were swept away in some kind of weird twilight hysteria. by the time we came to our senses, we were sitting in the theater waiting for the previews to start.

i intermittently laughed and cringed at the overwrought dialogue, adolescent moping and sparkly-vampire drama. i’ve never read any of the books or seen the first movie, so i’ll admit: i don’t get it. that being said, i hope everyone out there who is a fan of this saga realizes that edward and bella aren’t in love. they’re in a co-dependent, borderline emotionally abusive relationship, and if my teenage daughter found herself mired in the kind of angst and depression that bella experienced, i wouldn’t let her stare out the window for four months straight. i’d send her to counseling.

the only remotely cool things about this movie were jacob’s hair before he cut it, and the volturi. honestly, i would have had more fun watching 130 minutes of footage that cut between jacob’s hair blowing in the wind and the volturi acting superior and creepy. oh yeah, and the other good part was the bon iver/ st. vincent song.

in conclusion, let me leave you with some quotes from different reviews of this movie:

remember back in the day when anyone could tivo something for free, as long as they had the smarts? it was called programming your VCR, and i’m pretty sure my dad still does that when important games are on that he cant miss (you know like LEBRON or the buckeyes). i’m going to try to get him to tape that beyonce special for me so that alie and i can watch it. if she does something like stage dives during halo (see above video) i will not forgive myself for missing that.

i have this pair of jeans that my mom bought me when she came out here in april. they are supes cute but kind of short, like ankle biters, you know? i never washed them because i was afraid of shrinkage. literally, i had this pair of jeans since april and i just washed them for the first time last weekend. so i dunno. i clearly don’t follow this rule.
